During the Aprilfestival of 2017 in Sønderborg Teatercentrum launched their new concept HACK THE THEATRE as a part of the T.E.E.N.
Hack the Theatre is a laboratory study on how to hack theater performances and it was held for the first time at the Aprilfestival in Sønderborg 2017 with several workshops.
In this context a hack can be defined as a comment or a small disturbance within the existing conventions.
The purpose of the concept is to create new opportunities for dialogue between young people and Theater professionals, and to explore how young people engage in theater experiences.
Hack the Theatre is a project where young theater hackers uses theater criticism as a method of finding new ways to comment on a performative experience.
The difference between a hack and a review is:
a review is a comment you send out so that others can read about what you have experienced, whereas a hack is a comment you send back to the theater to start a dialogue between the young people and the theater professionals.
The first Hack the Theater workshops were developed by Teatercentrum in Denmark in collaboration with AKTØR, DATS and Matthew Reason, Professor of Theatre and Performance in the Faculty of Arts at York St John University.
