Blackthorn of Beauty
Hi! I’m Anna from Ukraine, and I’m genuinely happy to be alive and safe today. I love plays, books, and cats (far too cute to ignore). I’m very talkative (I’m working on it 🥲), and I enjoy reading detective novels, journaling every day, playing etudes, and watching series. But the most exciting part of my life is theatre — it gives me that feeling of beauty and wonder I keep returning to.
The soil / the need
At that point, life felt too boring. I was looking for something special and beautiful — and then I found it.
The first seed
A performance you watched.
Tell us about that first spark
It started with a single ticket to a Ukrainian play, Konotopska Vidma (The Konotop Witch). At first, nothing dramatic happened — I was just watching a play. But then, suddenly, I felt something I had never felt before. I can’t fully describe it, but anyone close to theatre would understand. I stopped just watching and began to live the story with the characters.
Roots (people & experiences that shaped your path)
My local theatre, and my friend Lidia, who also loves theatre.
The trunk (what keeps you in theatre)
The feeling of beauty.
Branches (future / desire)
I imagine theatre remaining something I truly admire, and I hope it can continue to give me the support I need.
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Why?
A blackthorn. I feel ready to sacrifice myself to become a sanctuary for a lonely bunny in the desert, so other trees can grow around me. I am ready to forge a path.
