Sea Buckthorn

I was born and grew up in Minsk, Belarus, where my journey in theatre began. I recently moved to Vilnius, where I am studying acting while also creating scenography and costumes for the performances of my theatre group.
In theatre I am interested in the idea of beauty and in the language through which people can understand each other even when they are very different. I am also drawn to social themes and often reflect on the situation in my home country through my work.

The soil / the need

The first performance I still remember attending was about a boy and a girl traveling among the stars in search of happiness. I have always loved fairy tales, and theatre felt like a place where magic could truly exist, where you could experience it right there in the moment.
I also know that some of my truest friends appeared in my life through theatre, because we were creating something together. And at that time theatre also awakened in me a curiosity about the life around me.

Tell us about that first spark

I think I realized that theatre had become an inseparable and important part of me when my literature teacher began discussing plays with me personally — the ones we read in class and the ones beyond the program, as well as the productions we watched.

I also understood it at the moment when rehearsals somehow became more important than everything else in the world — more important than tomorrow’s test, first love, and the many other interests that filled my life at the time.

Roots (people & experiences that shaped your path)

I have been fortunate to have wonderful teachers who truly believed in me, and I am deeply grateful to them. Another important force in my journey has been love for theatre and for the people with whom I share it. Love can be difficult and sometimes painful, but I try to preserve it, and in many ways it sustains me as well.
Figure who inspires me is Dante Alighieri. The idea that Dante was guided out of Hell not by hope, but by the memory of Beauty that had once deeply touched him, moved me greatly. It inspires me to create art that might help guide someone out of their own darkness and to keep searching for beauty.

The trunk (what keeps you in theatre)

I truly believe that beauty can save the world. Theatre may live only briefly, like a butterfly, but the strength it carries can be as powerful as an elephant.

Branches (future / desire)

Right now I am studying theatre alongside people who are very dear to me, and I hope to continue creating and growing together with them.
In the coming years, I would like to study scenography and deepen my exploration of beauty through theatre.

Yes, sometimes

If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Why?

I think I would be a sea buckthorn tree from my grandmother’s garden — slender and a little otherworldly. And the bright orange berries would be the kind of warmth that helps through difficult or sad moments.
