Yellow Autumn Birch
I’m Anastasiia Bilyk, 15 years old, and an active community leader. I am the head of a charity organisation focused on cultural film screenings and discussions, a member of the Student Interparliamentary Assembly, Secretary to the President of my Lyceum, and Head of Playwriting in the Student Interparliamentary Assembly. I care deeply about youth leadership, culture, and creating meaningful experiences that bring people together.
The soil / the need
When I first approached theatre, I was trying to find a way to express myself more openly and share ideas in a way that could truly move people. I needed a creative space where creativity could meet community, and theatre gave me that — a chance to turn curiosity and energy into stories that inspire others.
The first seed
A festival / event.
Tell us about that first spark
I don’t remember one specific moment when theatre became important to me, but I clearly remember the feeling. It was the thrill of being part of something bigger — writing scripts for youth events and watching them come to life on stage. The atmosphere of creativity, teamwork, and emotional connection became the spark.
Roots (people & experiences that shaped your path)
The people and opportunities I encountered in youth communities had the biggest impact on me. Writing scripts for city events and seeing them staged gave me my first glimpse of theatre’s impact. Working with peers — rehearsing, performing, and sharing collective energy — shaped my path more than any single moment. These experiences of teamwork and interconnection made theatre meaningful and continue to inspire me to use it as a tool for leadership and community-building.
The trunk (what keeps you in theatre)
What keeps me connected is the blend of creativity and impact. Writing scripts and watching them come to life reminds me how powerful theatre can be in inspiring people. Every rehearsal and performance energises me, strengthens my confidence, and develops my ability to lead and collaborate.
Branches (future / desire)
Theatre already plays an important role in my life through scriptwriting for youth events. For me, it is not only about acting but also about creating stories that bring people together, give them emotions, and leave a message. I want to continue developing creativity, leadership, and clear communication through theatre, and I hope it gives me space for experimentation, inspiration, and a stronger voice as an organiser and leader.
Are you currently involved in cultural activities?
Yes, regularly.
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Why?
A yellow autumn birch. It is graceful yet strong, with golden leaves that symbolize warmth, energy, and renewal. It adapts well, remains rooted, and reflects joy and creativity — grounded in values and community while staying open to the world.
