Weeping Willow
My interests revolve around creation and exploration. I am deeply interested in researching body movement and the ways the body can communicate ideas, emotions, and experiences. I see movement as a language and a space for experimentation and discovery.
In my free time, I enjoy working with audiovisual media and images. I am particularly interested in collage and image intervention, combining fragments to transform meanings and create new visual narratives.
Through movement and visual creation, I like to explore different ways of thinking, perceiving, and expressing the world around me.
The soil / the need
When I was three, I started dancing, and since then I have never stopped. As I grew older, I became more interested in creation and choreography. In recent years, I have been living in Madrid, where I have tried to see as many performances as possible.
Throughout this time, I have been searching for connection. Maybe when I was little I didn’t realize it, but from then until now I have been looking for connection with others, and also for a deeper connection with myself.
The first seed
A parent / Family.
Tell us about that first spark
It has been important to me for a long time, but not so long ago I was at Matadero in Madrid watching RocĂo Molina perform “CarnaciĂłn.” I felt so many things. Even before it started, with the lights off, I already felt full in that moment, sharing the space with all those strangers and feeling very true to myself, open to receiving, sitting in the theater.
In that moment I realized that although I enjoy performing and I really enjoy the process of creating, I also feel very happy simply being around the theater: watching, working with the technicians, writing…
Roots (people & experiences that shaped your path)
These last years have shaped my path a lot. I feel that my way of perceiving art has changed, and that is because I have been lucky enough to share these years with some amazing people who are now my friends.
We have talked so much about art: what it is, what it means to us, what we can do with it, and what we can change through it. And now I can say that, even though we still have many questions, we know what our voice is and that it is stronger when we are together. For that reason, they are the most relevant people in my path.
The trunk (what keeps you in theatre)
When people ask me this, I always have one clear reason: there is nothing I enjoy doing more, and there is nowhere I feel more like myself. Even though sometimes I feel sad about the way work is structured, I have felt underestimated a few times when presenting my work in places where art is not important to them, or where a young woman is not considered good enough to have an opinion.
But for some reason I keep going, because this is what I want. Sometimes I don’t even know anymore if I can, but I feel it, and that is what matters to me: being true to myself.
Branches (future / desire)
In the future, I hope to continue creating and presenting my work. I am also looking forward to starting my Master’s degree in Cultural Management. If everything goes as planned, I would love to work in cultural project management.
Are you currently involved in cultural activities?
Yes, regularly
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Why?
The Weeping Willow because of how it moves, its like the branches are free.
