Peculiarity

A unique example of curation and selection, where a group of young people has real decision-making authority within a theatrical institution. The project shifts the focus from simple participation to active management, allowing young people to define the artistic direction and content of the theater, thus making it an authentic space for their community.

Project description

“Drama Control” is the children and youth council of the Junges Schauspielhaus Bochum. The group, made up of participants aged 6 to 21, meets regularly to contribute significantly to the theater’s life. In addition to giving their opinion on productions, the group collaborates with artistic management in selecting directors and themes for new shows. Young people also have the opportunity to co-create plots and characters, ensuring the works are authentically representative of their world. The initiative is based on the belief that for theater to be a place of expression for young people, it must be created by them, not just by adults.
