EVERY BRILLIANT THING – Brescia, Italy
Teatro Telaio - Italy
Project Description
The “Every Brilliant Thing” project by Teatro Telaio, based in Brescia, is a highly interactive theatrical production aimed at high school students. Its goal is to address complex themes related to mental health and emotional well-being in adolescence, such as depression. The project actively involves young people not only as an audience but also in the co-creation process of the show.
The Role of Teens in the Project
Young people have a central and active role in all phases and contribute to:
- Staging: A group of 15 students staged the text, working on its humorous aspects and addressing serious themes in a direct way.
- Set Design: Another group created the props for the show’s set.
- Validation and Research: Dozens of students participated in rehearsals to test the dynamics of interaction with the audience and refine the show based on the emotional responses of adolescents.
- Debriefing: After each performance, young people participate in a debate with the artists and psychologists to discuss the show’s themes and share their emotions.
- Scientific Research: The project involves the University of Brescia in a study to investigate the basic affective systems in adolescents. This makes the young people feel like “active citizens” who are helping to map this complex world.
Unique Project Feature
The unique feature of “Every Brilliant Thing” is its use of theater as a tool for scientific research and co-creation to address sensitive topics. The direct involvement of adolescents is not limited to acting; it makes them partners in production and research. This approach ensures that the show is not only emotionally resonant but also provides valuable data to improve the understanding of youth mental health, making young people active participants in building their own well-being.
