Peculiarity
This project is a powerful example of Ideation / Co-creation directly driven by a real-world crisis. Teenagers acted as comprehensive co-creators, leading the entire process from concept to performance and behind-the-scenes work. It uniquely transforms personal experiences of climate anxiety and trauma into a professional-level theatrical production.
Project description
LiMBOLAND is a theater project created in response to the devastating Australian “Black Summer” fires and subsequent catastrophic floods. It was originally developed with a youth cast of 17 who served as co-creators, shaping the themes, script, and staging based on their personal experiences and concerns about the climate emergency. This project empowers young people to transform their anxiety and despair into a meaningful theatrical work. The original production garnered national attention and was later adapted into both a professional two-person show and a large-scale youth production, demonstrating how a youth-led creative process can result in a powerful and professional artistic statement.
