TEEN’s role in this project
The role of the teens in this project is one of co-creation and co-curatorship at all levels, as they:
Work on the collective writing of the script.
Participate in selecting scenes and using humor.
Make decisions about sound, visuals, and choreography.
Decide what to say and how to represent their view of independence.
Reclaim an institutional date and give it a new personal meaning.
Project Description
“¿Qué cuerpo libre dice lo que quiere decir?” (What free body says what it wants to say?) is a performative intervention created with high school students from a public school in Argentina. Starting from a critical reflection on the concept of freedom and the commemoration of July 9th (Argentina’s Independence Day), the project aims to have young people reclaim cultural narratives. The project combines various artistic languages, including performance, dance (inspired by Arabic Dabka), podcast, and parody, in a powerful and provocative tone. The goal is not just to have the teens “act,” but to empower them to decide what to say and how to say it, providing them with tools to build a sense of their own citizenship.
Unique Project Feature
The unique feature of this project is its methodological approach that considers teens not just as participants but as active co-creators and co-curators. This process allows their critical perspective, imagination, and capacity for collective organization to be valued. The project empowers young people to directly intervene in cultural narratives, transforming art into a vital means for building meaning and community within the public school.
