TEEN’s role in this project project
Curate open call submissions through a youth advisory board and jury work
Create their own artistic works in workshops (e.g., graphic novels, game design, film)
Produce live performances such as a mini-opera and a dance piece
Advise on decisions regarding the type of presentation in the exhibition context
Collaborate with professional artists, displaying works at eye level
Peculiarity
A unique example of curation and selection where a youth advisory board is given the authority to curate an exhibition. The project breaks down the hierarchy between amateur and professional art by displaying works from both on the same level, empowering young people as partners and experts in a museum context.
Project description
“SOLARPUNK” is a participatory, multimedia exhibition project by uzwei, the educational department of the Dortmunder U museum. The exhibition combines results from youth workshops, open call submissions, and works by professional artists. A central element is the youth advisory board, which acts as a jury to curate the external submissions. The project presents the works of young artists and professionals on an equal footing, exploring the theme of “solarpunk” through various art forms such as graphic novels, film, sculpture, and live performances. The goal is to perceive young people as partners and experts, valuing their ideas and their vision of the world.
