Peculiarity
This project is a powerful example of Curation / Selection. The teens are not just consulted; they hold real decision-making power and are trusted to program, manage, and shape a significant part of the organization’s work. This approach moves beyond symbolic participation, empowering them to become professional artists and cultural leaders.
Project description
Teens at Lyra is a free performing arts program for young people aged 12-18, focusing on high-quality artistic training and leadership. Participants are deeply involved as co-curators and artists in the organization’s activities. They get to curate a major annual festival, program professional shows, and even participate in board meetings. The program aims to give young people, especially those from disadvantaged communities, the skills and confidence to lead in the cultural sector. This model shows that giving teenagers real responsibility leads to more engaging art and stronger personal growth.
